Description

Recorded: September 15, 2016

Length: 60 Minutes

CECL will place significant demands on accounting practices for banks, especially on ALLL calculation. Although the CECL approach will not be in effect in the immediate future, the demands of CECL are such that now is the time to start working to meet them. Banks that wait too long to set off on a path to CECL are likely to find themselves, and the regulators, disappointed in the outcomes.

CECL shifts the focus of ALLL from looking back (“incurred losses”) to looking forward (“expected losses”). Each institution will have to choose its own calculation methodology, and the quality of the outputs of that methodology will be highly dependent on the quality and quantity of data available for input. All that suggests a long lead time to effective application of CECL to accounting practices.

This webinar will:

  • Provide an overview CECL and the key issues it raises.
  • Discuss potential approaches for CECL implementation.
  • Highlight key features of ALLL calculation under CECL.
  • Explain the urgency of data definition and collection well before the CECL deadlines.
  • Provide resources regarding CECL and ALLL issues.

Presenter: Jeff Judy, Jeff Judy & Associates

Jeff has devoted more than thirty years to exploring relationships between financial service providers and their customers. That experience has convinced him that both the provider and the user of financial services benefit from deep knowledge and a thorough understanding of how that interaction works, and from knowing what goals, concerns, and methods command the attention of both sides of the relationship.
